Scan profiles
How do I move between Scope, Authentication and Reporting in a profile?
Click Scope, Authentication or Reporting in the switcher on the left side of the profile form. Each one opens its own set of fields on the same page. One shared footer holds Preview YAML and Save, so you save the whole profile once and not each section.
Steps
- Open the form. Click + New profile on Scan Profiles, or click the pencil icon on a profile you already have.
- Look at the left side of the page. A switcher lists three sections, each with a short description.
- Click Scope for the target, vulnerability classes, exploitation phase, scan location and focus and avoid rules.
- Click Authentication for login roles and credentials.
- Click Reporting for report filters, report guidance, rules of engagement and application context.
- When you finish, click Save in the footer. It is one button for the whole profile.
Good to know
You are on one page with three views, not three separate forms. Whichever section you are in, the same footer holds Preview YAML and Save, so you never save a section on its own. Cancel sits at the top right and drops the form.
Start with Scope, because it holds the two required choices, and then work down the switcher in order, which lets you finish a whole profile in a few minutes with no backtracking. Those choices are the target and the name. Press Preview YAML with the name empty and a red banner appears. The page on that message explains the fix.
| Section | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Scope | Target, name, tags, vulnerability classes, exploitation phase, scan location, focus and avoid rules |
| Authentication | Roles, privilege levels, login methods and credentials |
| Reporting | Minimum severity and confidence, guidance, rules of engagement, application context |
You may save a profile with no roles at all. In that case the Authentication section reads "No auth roles. Add a role to scan behind login, or leave empty for unauthenticated scanning." For a full tour, read how to create a scan profile.
