Notes on a finding are saved with the Update status button, not as you type. If you closed the dialog first, the text is gone. Type the note again, click Update status, then reopen the finding to check. If it still fails, you may lack triage permission.
Why this happens
The Notes box does not save on its own, and nothing warns you when you close it with unsaved text. The help text under it reads: Saved with "Update status". Notes, disposition and assignee are all stored together by that one button. No button, no save. Close the dialog first, with the x or with Close, and the text you typed is gone.
Access is the second cause. Changing a finding needs the issue:triage permission. Without it, the change is refused even when the dialog opens fine and every field looks editable. Check your role if retyping does not help.
How to fix it
- Click the finding's row on Issues, or on the Findings tab of a scan.
- On the Summary tab, type your note again in the Notes box.
- Click Update status at the top of the dialog. Leave the disposition alone if you only want to save the note. One click does it.
- Close the dialog. Then click the same row again to open it fresh, which proves the note was stored on the server and not just kept on screen.
- Look at the Notes box. Your text should be there, and that tells you the save worked.
Still not working?
Work through these checks in order, because the first two cover almost every case we expect to see, and the last one only matters for locked-down roles.
- Make sure you did not switch to the Evidence tab and click away before saving. Notes live on the Summary tab.
- Ask an admin whether your role includes the triage permission, since a role without it can read findings but cannot change them. The page on changing status covers the same limit.
- See whether the Activity feed shows that the triage went through.
