How do I start a scan straight from the Targets list?

Quick answer

Click the ▷ Scan button on the target's row in the Targets list. The scan starts at once and is durable, so you can close the page. Follow it under Recent Scans. For a specific profile, use the Scan button on the target page.

You do not have to open a target to run it. Each row in the Targets list has its own scan button.

Steps

  1. Click Targets in the sidebar.
  2. Find the target in the list, using the search box above the table when you have many of them to look through.
  3. Press ▷ Scan in the Actions column, where the tooltip is "Scan this target".
  4. Go to Recent Scans, where the newest row opens the scan detail page when you click it.
  5. Watch the phase, live cost and tokens while it runs, and expect lines of code too on a white-box scan.

Good to know

Starts are quick. Your scan begins straight away and keeps running on the server, so closing the tab does not stop it. A typical scan of a small app takes roughly an hour. Rate limits make a scan slower, but they never make it fail, so a long run is not a sign that something broke.

Where you click ScanWhat it runs
Targets list rowThe target, from the list
Target page, profile rowThat exact profile
Scan Profiles listThat profile
Recent Scans rowA re-run of an earlier scan

A scan needs a scan profile, because the profile holds the scope, login roles and reporting rules. If the target has none yet, open it and click + New profile first. When you want a particular profile every time, start from the profile row instead, since that removes any doubt about which configuration the scan will use. Your plan also limits how many scans run at once. See how to scan from the target page, or use /contact if a scan will not start.
