How do I delete a tag?

Quick answer

Delete a tag with DELETE /api/tags/:id, which needs the tag:delete permission. List your tags with GET /api/tags to find the id first. The Tags page we reviewed only showed an add form, so ask an admin if you have no delete control there.

Steps

  1. Confirm that your role holds tag:delete, which the API Reference lists on the delete row. Ask an admin if you are unsure.
  2. Send GET /api/tags with your Bearer token. The reply lists every tag with its usage count, and each tag has an id.
  3. Note the id of the tag you want to remove. The usage count tells you how many profiles still carry it.
  4. Send DELETE /api/tags/:id, replacing :id with that id.
  5. Open Tags in the sidebar and reload the page. The tag should be gone.
  6. Open Scan Profiles and look at the chip filter. Confirm that no profile or report still depends on the old name in your daily workflow, because a missing label is easy to overlook until someone searches for it.

When we reviewed the app, the Tags page showed a form to add a tag and the empty state No tags yet. It showed no delete control, so the API is the route the reference documents. If your page does have one, use it.

Good to know

Deleting is a registry change. The API description for the call says only that it deletes a tag, so we cannot promise what happens to a tag already typed on a profile. Check a few profiles afterwards, and re-add the tag if you still need it.
