How do I add all profiles with a certain tag to a group?
In the New group dialog, use Add by tag and select the tags you want. Every profile that carries any of the selected tags joins the group. If the box says No tags available, create the tag on the Tags page first, then reopen the dialog.
Steps
- Open Groups and click + New group.
- Enter a Name.
- Find Add by tag. The hint under it says that all profiles carrying any selected tag join the group.
- Select a tag. You can pick several, and a profile joins if it has any one of them.
- Tick extra profiles in Select profiles if some need to join without the tag.
- Click Create group.
Good to know
This dialog does not build its list from tags typed on profiles. It reads the central tag registry instead. When we reviewed a workspace with a tag on one profile but an empty registry, the dialog said No tags available.
That gives you a simple fix:
- Open Tags in the sidebar.
- Type the same name in the box and click + Add tag.
- Return to the group dialog. The tag should now be on offer.
If it is still missing, ask an admin to check that you hold the tag:read permission. See how to create a tag in the registry.
- The rule works on tags, not on a fixed list of profiles. You do not name each profile one by one.
- Tag-based and hand-picked membership can sit in one group, so a tagged set can still take two or three profiles that were never tagged, with no extra work.
- Mixed up about the difference? Read groups versus tags.
When you only want a few named profiles, use the profile picker instead. Add tags to profiles with these steps.
