In the New group dialog, use Select profiles. Search by name, tick each profile you want, and watch the counter, which reads N profile(s) explicitly selected. Then click Create group. Each row shows the profile's tags, which helps you pick the right ones.
Steps
- Open Groups and click + New group.
- Type a Name.
- Scroll to Select profiles. Click the search box, which reads Search profiles..., and type part of a profile name.
- Tick the box beside each profile you want. The row also shows the profile's tag chips, which helps when two names look alike.
- Read the counter under the list. It says N profile(s) explicitly selected, where N is your count.
- Click Create group. The new group then appears on the Groups page, and you can reopen the list at any time to check who is in it.
Good to know
The dialog calls hand-picked profiles explicitly selected, and that wording is the clue to how they behave. They stay in the group until you change the group yourself. A tag rule is different, because it follows the tag.
| Way to add | Best when |
|---|---|
| Select profiles | The list is short and fixed |
| Add by tag | The set changes over time |
| Both | A tagged set needs a few extras |
- A profile belongs to one target, so a group can span profiles from different targets, which is useful for a product that has several apps.
- Use short, plain names so teammates can find the group later without asking you what it holds.
- An empty list means no profile exists yet, so you must create one before the group has anything to hold. See how to create a scan profile.
- To change a group later, read how to update or delete a group.
Compare this with adding every profile with a tag, which suits larger sets. The groups and tags tutorial shows both ways side by side.
