Tags are labels you put on scan profiles so you can find and filter them. Groups are sets of profiles used for access scoping. Build a group by ticking profiles, by choosing tags, or both.
The short version
A tag is a label. A group is a set. Tags help you find profiles. Groups help you control who reaches them, which is a different job and needs a different tool.
| Tag | Group | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A label on a profile | A set of profiles |
| Main use | Finding and filtering | Scoping access |
| Where you make it | Profile form or Tags page | Groups page |
| How it fills | You add it to profiles | By tag, by hand, or both |
How it works in Cyberlop
You add a tag inside the profile form, in the box that says "Add a tag and press Enter". The Scan Profiles page then shows tag chips you can click to filter the list. The Tags page holds a registry where you type a name and click + Add tag, which gives you one tidy list of the labels your team has agreed on.
Groups start on the Groups page. In the dialog, adding by tag brings in every profile carrying a chosen tag. Ticking profiles by hand works too. Both ways can mix in one group.
One quirk to know. The tag list in the group dialog can read "No tags available" even when a profile carries a tag. The registry on the Tags page looks separate from tags typed in a profile. If that happens, pick the profiles by hand.
What to do next
Use tags for how you think about your estate, such as prod or payments, because a tag only labels a profile and never changes who can reach it. Use groups when a person should only reach part of it. Go further with the purpose of groups and how to create a tag.
