Scan profiles

Why can't I change the target on my scan profile?

Quick answer

The target is locked when you create a profile, so the Target field is greyed out on the edit page. Create a new profile on the target you want, copy your settings across, and delete the old profile if you no longer need it.

Why this happens

On the Edit scan profile page the Target field is read-only. The help text under it says: "A profile's target is fixed after creation." That is a design choice, and it has nothing to do with a fault or a missing permission.

It matches how the rest of Cyberlop works. Targets are immutable too. To change a target's settings you delete it and create it again. A profile belongs to one target, and all of its past scans and findings stay tied to that target.

How to fix it

  1. Open Targets and click the target you really want. Create it first if it does not exist yet.
  2. On its Scan profiles card, click + New profile. This route preselects the target for you.
  3. Re-enter your choices: the name, tags, vulnerability classes, exploitation setting, scan location, rules, login roles and report filters. Stored passwords and secrets are never shown again, so type them in once more.
  4. Click Preview YAML to check the form, then click Save.
  5. Run a scan on the new profile.
  6. If the old profile is now wrong, delete it from Scan Profiles. Note that a profile's schedules go with it.

Still not working?

  • Wrong profile name, tags or rules? You do not need a new profile, because those fields stay editable.
  • A wrong URL or environment sits on the target itself. Delete and recreate the target, which also removes its profiles, schedules, scans and findings, so export what you need first.
  • Target missing from the picker on the new profile? See why the target picker is empty.
