Targets & repositories

What does it mean that targets are immutable?

Quick answer

Immutable means you cannot edit a target after you create it. Its name, URLs, repository, branch, environment and team stay as saved. To change any of them, delete the target and create it again, which also removes its profiles, schedules, scans and findings.

The short version

A target is a fixed record. After you click Create target, the app gives you no edit button for it, and the tooltip on the trash icon in the Targets list repeats the rule in plain words. If a detail is wrong, you replace the whole target rather than patch it.

How it works in Cyberlop

The API follows the same rule. The Targets group lists reading, creating and deleting, and it has no route for updating. The group description reads "Immutable once created."

  • Fixed: name, Main URL, backend URLs, repository, branch, environment and team.
  • Editable: scan profiles, including classes, exploitation, login roles and reporting rules.
  • Tied to the target: profiles, schedules, scans and findings.

Findings persist per target across scans, so the history of fixes and regressions hangs on the target itself. That is why replacing a target means starting that history again from the first scan. Deleting a target cascades to its profiles, schedules, scans and findings. Deleting just one scan keeps the findings.

A profile also stays with its target. The profile form shows the note "A profile's target is fixed after creation."

What to do next

Before you delete, download the latest PDF report and export the findings you want to keep. Then create the new target and rebuild its profile. Step by step instructions are in how to change a target. To avoid doing this twice, check the URL, repository and branch carefully before you save, and read the Target details card once the target exists. Need help? Use /contact.
