Troubleshooting

What does "Scan failed — The scan could not be completed" mean, and what should I do?

Quick answer

The red "Scan failed" banner means the scan could not be completed. It does not name a cause. Open the Findings tab for partial results, check your target, repository and login settings, then press Scan again. If it keeps failing, contact your administrator or Cyberlop.

Why this happens

The banner reads Scan failed. The scan could not be completed. Please try again, or contact your administrator if the problem persists. It appears at the top of the scan page for any run that ended with the red Failed badge, and it stays there as long as the scan is in your list.

The banner does not give a reason, so the fix starts with a few quick checks that rule out the common setup problems. A failed scan can also hold findings from before it stopped, and those are useful in their own right.

How to fix it

  1. Go to Recent Scans, click the scan and read the banner.
  2. Click the Findings and Sitemap tabs, where anything listed was found before the run stopped.
  3. Check the target. A white-box target needs a repository URL over HTTPS, and a private repository needs a Git token.
  4. Then look at the profile. If the app has a login, confirm the role details are still right.
  5. If the profile runs on a scan agent, check that the agent shows online in Settings → Scan agents.
  6. Go back to the profile list and press Scan again. Wait for the result.

Plan limits are a separate matter. When the included AI allowance runs out, scans on Cyberlop AI pause until next month instead of failing, so a pause and a failure are easy to tell apart. Check Settings → Plan & usage to rule that out.

Still not working?

If a second run fails the same way, the cause is not visible on the screens you have. Send your administrator the target name and the eight-character scan ID from the page header. Or contact Cyberlop through /contact with the same details.

Meanwhile, you can still triage the partial findings. Read why a failed scan still shows findings for how they behave.
