Scheduling & automation

I deleted a profile and its schedules disappeared. Why?

Quick answer

A schedule belongs to one scan profile, so deleting the profile deletes its schedules too. Per the API Reference, profile deletion cascades to its schedules. Create the profile again and add a new schedule to get the same rhythm back, and use the steps below to match the old timing.

Why this happens

Schedules have no life of their own, because it only runs a scan profile and so depends on that profile. The API Reference says that deleting a profile "cascades to its schedules". Deleting a target goes further still, and it removes the target's profiles, schedules, scans and findings together.

How to fix it

  1. Open Scan Profiles and confirm that the profile is gone. Check Targets too, in case the whole target has gone.
  2. Click + New profile and enter the scope, logins and reporting rules again. A profile keeps its target for life, so choose the right one at the start.
  3. Open Scheduled Scans and click + New schedule.
  4. Pick the new profile, then set the same Frequency and Start date & time as before.
  5. Save with Create schedule, then check the list to be sure that the new schedule shows up with the profile, frequency and start time that you intended.

Still not working?

  • The steps above cannot bring back deleted data. Findings that lived under a deleted target are gone with it.
  • Removing a scan is different, because that keeps the target's findings, which stay on the Issues page.
  • Check the Activity feed to see who deleted what and when, if your role can open it.

Next time, pause a schedule instead of deleting its profile. See how to turn a schedule off. To learn what else a delete removes, read why deleting a target removed everything. Need help? contact us.
