Targets & repositories

How do I change a target's URL or repository after creating it?

Quick answer

You cannot edit a target once it exists. To change its URL or repository, delete the target and create it again with the new details. Deleting also removes its profiles, schedules, scans and findings, so download any reports you need first.

Targets are immutable, which means the name, URLs, repository, branch, environment and team stay as they were when you clicked Create target. The trash icon on the Targets list says it plainly in its tooltip, which tells you to delete the target and recreate it whenever you want to change settings.

Steps

  1. Keep a copy of your results first. On Targets, the document icon downloads the latest PDF report, and on Issues you can use Export JSON or Export CSV.
  2. Look at the target page and write down its Name, Main URL, Backend URLs, Repository, Branch, Environment and Team.
  3. Go back to Targets and click the red trash icon on that row.
  4. Click + New target and enter the corrected values.
  5. Open the new target, click + New profile, and rebuild the profile you had before.

Good to know

Deleting a target cascades, so its profiles, schedules, scans and findings all go with it, whereas deleting a single scan is gentler because that keeps the findings that belong to the target.

What you want to changeWhat to do
Main URL or backend URLsDelete and recreate the target
Repository or branchDelete and recreate the target
Environment or teamDelete and recreate the target
Scan rules, login roles, reportingEdit the scan profile instead

A profile cannot move to another target, because it stays with the one it was made for. You can still edit anything on the profile without touching the target, including vulnerability classes, login roles and reporting filters. Read why targets are immutable for the background. If you cannot delete, ask an admin, or write to /contact.
