I created a target with the wrong environment. How do I fix it?
You cannot edit a target's environment, because targets are immutable. Delete the target, then click + New target and choose the right Environment (Dev, Staging or Prod). Deleting also removes its profiles, scans and findings, so export anything you need first.
Why this happens
You choose the Environment (Dev, Staging or Prod) when you create the target. Dev is the default, so it is easy to leave it by accident. After that the target stays locked, and the Targets page has no edit button. The only route is to delete the target and create it again, which takes a few minutes if you have the details to hand. It matters because the environment label shows up in lists and reports, and a Prod label on a staging site is confusing for everyone.
How to fix it
- Save your details. Open the target and note its Main URL, backend URLs, repository, branch and team.
- Export findings you need. Use Export JSON or Export CSV on the Targets or Issues pages.
- Delete the target. Click the red trash icon on its row. Its profiles, schedules, scans and findings go with it.
- Create it again. Click + New target, fill in the same details, and set Environment to Dev, Staging or Prod.
- Add the profiles back. Open the new target and click + New profile. Repeat any scope, roles and reporting you had before.
Still not working?
Deleting one scan keeps the target's findings, but deleting the whole target does not. Think before you confirm.
A new target also counts toward your monthly limit, so check Settings → Plan & usage first. Scan the right environment, and test only systems you have permission to test.
